The very first Ferris wheel, designed by George Washington Gale Ferris Jr., was constructed for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. It stood 264 feet (80 meters) tall and featured 36 cars, each capable of holding up to 60 passengers. The Ferris wheel was a remarkable engineering feat of its time and became an iconic attraction at the fair.
