Who is the current leader of the UN when was he elected?

Ban Ki-moon is the Secretary-General of the United Nations. He took over from Kofi Annan on January 1st, 2007. He was actually elected on October 13th, 2006 to be the eighth Secretary-General to serve in the United Nations assembly.
