The Liberal Democrats have never been in office as a main political party, only as the current minor partners in a coalition with the Conservatives since the last General Election in May 2010. However, Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg is Deputy Prime Minister.

However the old Liberal Party, which now no longer exists in it's own right, had a number of Prime Ministers between the mid-19th and early 20th Centuries. The last Liberal PM was Welshman David Lloyd George, who served from December 1916 until October 1922. He died in 1945, soon after the end of WW2.
