The ONLY substance that should be used to clean coins at home is a bit of distilled water dabbed on with a soft cloth. Anything else (Brasso, Tarn-X, etc.) will damage the coin's surface and reduce its value.
Have you ever watched Antiques Roadshow where someone has an "old chest" that they sanded and stained? Then one of the Keno brothers has to tell them that if they hadn't tried to "fix" it, their piece of furniture would have been worth 10 times what it is now...
