How many aircraft in the US military?

Honestly no one knows. It is often facetiously said that the best count

on USAF strength is in Colorado Springs when there is a home game of

Army or Navy against the Air Force Academy. Another good time to check

out Air Force capabilities and aircraft types is at USAFA graduation when

Lears and Raptors and 747's and A-10's are double parked on the tarmac

to provide landing space for the USAF Thunderbirds.

6/26/09: The number fluctuates daily as aircraft are added and retired. But as of the 2008 Almanac the count is as follows:

Total active duty inventory: 4,093

National guard: 1,289

USAF Reserve Command: 396

There are 85 B-52's in service the average age is 45.8 years old.
