He still is trying to control you and the relationship. I wouldn't give this person any more of your time. Cut it off and let him wallow alone. Also its about him and how he looks. If he cuts off contact, he looks bad but if cuts off contact but says he still wants to be friends he looks good. He really doesn't want to be friends but doesn't want you mad at him or think he is being mean if he cuts off contact. Its about their image and how they are perceived.
They can hold on to an old supply they can return to if needed.
It's because he views ex girlfriends as trophies...his collection.
If a narcissist insinuated being your friend...that means, can I continue to treat you like garbage whenever I choose. Realize that narcissist have to win in their screwed up heads. They are extremely satisfied when they manipulate. This validates their power and control over you.
