Breakfast in Suriname is as varied as in other countries. In the countryside breakfast might consist of rice for the Javanese, roti [bread] for the Hindustani descendants of North Indian contract workers, or bread for the creoles.

In the city a popular breakfast is bread and butter topped with something sweet, a meat such as chicken, or cheese. Another popular breakfast is yogurt with muesli or other kinds of cereals with milk.
