The Word 'red' in Chinese is: 红 (Simple), 紅 (Traditional)
New addition:
Above is the most common character for 'red.' It is pronounced 'hóng'. If you want to say 'red' as a noun meaning the color red, you would have to say 红色 'hóng sè' (which sounds like hong suh). The 色 'sè' means color. If you want to say 'red' as an adjective meaning 'something that is red' as in red ball or red shirt, then you would say 红色的 'hóng sè de .......' (which sounds like hong suh duh).
Further addition:
"Hong" is Chinese Mandarin pronounciation; which is quite different from what we pronounce in English. People would mistakenly pronounced it as the "Hong" in "Hong Kong".
It should be pronounced as "Hone" (as in "Tone") in English pronounciation.
Slight disagreement:
I would say to pronounce as "hone" is not quite correct.
The Word has an almost silent "g". The "g" sound is still there, just very faint.
When pronouncing on it's own, it is harder to hear but when another Word follows such as in hóng sè, it is more defined.
