I'm just going out on a limb here, because there are many stories of brothers and I don't know which one you're referring to. I'm going to guess that it's the Tale of the Three Brothers, the origin of the Deathly Hallows in Harry Potter. In that case, I'd say there are three primary moral lessons. The first, from the eldest brother who claimed the Wand, is not to be greedy or prideful. The second, from the middle brother, is that you can not cheat Death. And the final, from Ignotus, the youngest brother, is that in the end, everyone dies. Not depressing at all. Really!
