How do you pan for gold wild west island?

Hopefully I'm not getting two things mixed up here, but when I was younger I went to this place in Arizona that taught us how to do it and it was pretty simple. You just find a river or stream that is known to have gold deposits in it and you use the sifting pan for it and just put it down in the water and let it drain to see if you got anything of value.
