They are so used to living a life at home, constantly having their loving mother and/or father figures to care for them. They have food, water, and can do whatever they please. Going to school represents an end to their freedom, and a hello to structured routine. In a sense, this is a new kind of freedom, yet children seem to be saddened by the fact that they have no choice in the matter. They just want to stay home and play, they don't want to go to school and be pulled from their incubator into a new world of academics.

I can still remember how horrified I was that no matter how hard I cried, nobody would let me go home from school. I just wanted to stay with my mom.

In retrospect, there wasn't much to be so horrified about, but it was a scarring moment for me.
