Elizabeth I, the Protestant daughter of Henry VIII.

Anglican Catholic Answer!

The only trouble with the above answer is that Elizabeth was never a Protestant!

As she wrote to the Emperor, I think, "We and our people - thanks be to God- follow no novel or strange religion, but that very religion ordained by Christ , sanctioned by the Primitive Catholic Church and approved by the consentient mind and voice of the early father!"

She preserved the Church in England from the attacks of the Calvinists and even when they gained a majority in parliament , repeatedly told them that the business of religion lay with the Bishops. Whilst on the other hand she rejected the Pope's offer for the English Catholic Bishops to have seats at Trent!

She helped preserve the 1500yr old Anglican Church from falling in to the slough of Trent and she deserves better usage!
