What are the different poetic devices?

Idiom- a saying that isn't its literal meaning. (its raining cats and dogs)

Hyperbole- an exaggeration (its so cold today that the water in my fish bowl froze)

Onomatopoeia- a Word describing a sound (Bang Clash Buzz)

Metaphor- a comparison of 2 nouns NOT using like or as (she was an angel)

Simile- a comparison of 2 nouns using like or as (the tree was as tall as a skyscraper)

Alliteration- a group of Words with the same beginning letter sound ( Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout by Shel Sylverstein)

Assonance- rhyming ( the cat in the hat hit the ball with a bat)

Personification- giving a non-human thing human qualities (the computer whispered to me to start typing my essay)
