Jeans were first manufactured by Levi Strauss, a German immigrant, in the United States during the 19th century. He and tailor Jacob Davis patented the design of riveted denim trousers in 1873, which became the foundation for modern jeans. Strauss's company, Levi Strauss & Co., played a pivotal role in popularizing denim jeans as durable workwear.
