Who discovered Bouvet island?

Bouvet Island was discovered by Jean-Baptiste Charles Bouvet de Lozier, a French naval officer, in 1739. Bouvet was searching for the Terra Australis, a mythical southern continent. Bouvet Island is now a territory of Norway.
