How do you flip in Mario 64?

First you need unlock mario, by getting 8 power stars, then once you unlock him, you need to get 13/14 power stars, In the main lobby, there is a light shining down.

Be Mario and look into the in person view. Its is a serect power star challange. In the middle, there is area, and butt smash the top of the switch!
