If you are writing a check to someone else, on the front of the check, write the person's name on the blank where it says "Pay to the order of" (or sometimes just "Pay"). Then write the amount in numbers in the small box at the right hand side, and in Words below (for example, "Six hundred fifty-two and 37/100" for $652.37), and sign the check on the signature line. You can also write an optional note to yourself about the purpose of the check on the "Memo" line on the lower left.
To prepare a check that you have received to be deposited to your account, on the back side of the check, sign your name and write "FOR DEPOSIT ONLY." You can also write the name of your bank and the account number.
