Clozapine is prescribed primarily for treatment-resistant schizophrenia, particularly in patients who have not responded well to other antipsychotic medications. It is effective in reducing symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions and can also decrease the risk of suicide in individuals with schizophrenia. Due to its potential side effects, including agranulocytosis (a severe drop in white blood cells), patients on clozapine require regular blood monitoring.
