What is the difference between an intermontane plateau and a Piedmont plateau?

An intermontane plateau is a flat or gently sloping area situated between mountain ranges, typically formed by volcanic activity or sedimentation and often characterized by its elevation and isolation. In contrast, a Piedmont plateau is a flat or gently rolling area located at the base of a mountain range, where the land slopes down from the mountains to lower elevations, often formed by erosion and sediment deposition. Essentially, intermontane plateaus are surrounded by mountains, while Piedmont plateaus are adjacent to them.
