Samuel de Champlain was a French navigator, geographer, draughtsman, cartographer, soldier, chronicler, explorer, and ethnologist. He was all of these things and as of July 3rd, 1603, the founder of Quebec City too. Champlain then became Quebec City's administrator until December 25, 1635, the date of his death.
Samuel de Champlain was born in Biscay, Brouage. His father was a ship captain, and Champlain received a careful navigational education.
