Did Mary leave Elizabeth before or after the birth of John?

Mary left Elizabeth after the birth of John the Baptist. According to the Gospel of Luke, Mary visited Elizabeth during her pregnancy, and John was born while Mary was still there. After John's birth, Mary returned to her home, as stated in Luke 1:56.
