How old was Abraham when he had his son Ishmael?

A:Genesis 16:16 says that Abram (later to be called Abraham) was 86 years old when Ishmael was born.

Of course, this is an improbable age for someone to have a son, but no more so than when Abraham and Sarah were 100 and 90 respectively when Isaac was born. There is literary evidence in The Bible itself as to how the oral storytellers arrived at these ages and the biblical lifespans of the Patriarchs.
