Eliza Hart Spalding was a missionary in the West with her husband, Henry Spalding. Together, they traveled the Oregon Trail with Marcus and Narcissa Whitman. This group were the some of the earliest Americans to cross the Rocky mountains and the Western plains. Narcissa and Eliza actually were the first white women to cross the Rocky Mountains. Their mission place was in Nez Perce country, Lapwai Creek.
