Explain how a channel captain can help traditional independent firms compete with a corporate channel system?

Channel captains work together with other independent firms and could work together to create the activity of an integrated channel to benefit them both. It is possible for an Independent firm to be part of one or more channels of distributions.

It seems like it would be more profitable for them both if they see this independence, notice the problems and and correct them as they arise.
