How do you lower the convertible top on a 450sl Mercedes-Benz?

This is a manual procedure. You need the top tool that came with the car, which is usually found in the tool kit or manual pack.. 1. Flip the visors down to reveal the two locking nuts...use the top tool to unlock the top. 2. Behind the driver's seat, on the left side of the back well, there is a small handle. Push the handle towards the rear of the car as far as it will go. You'll see the convertible cover pop up ( horseshoe shaped). Pull this cover all the way up to a 90 degree angle. 3. Take the front of the top and push it up and towards the rear of the car...the top will start to fold into the boot. Make sure the entire canvas top is in the boot before you close the cover..
