What is the purpose of a universal warn skid plate?

The skid plate is installed under the front area of your chassis for the puropose of preventing debris and damage to your undercarriage. It's mainly useful if you off road a lot or if you're driving on gravel/dirt roads. It would probably protect that area under your car if you were to accidentally run over a huge flap of tire laying on the highway.
