During the Civil War (1861-1865), cars as we know them today did not exist. The automobile was not invented until the late 19th century, with the first gasoline-powered vehicle emerging in the 1880s. However, during the war, there were some steam-powered vehicles and early forms of horseless carriages, but they were not widely used or practical for military purposes. Most transportation relied on horses, trains, and ships.
