segregation meaning the action or state of setting someone or something apart from other people/things/being set apart. and/or the enforced separation of different racial groups in a county, community, or establishment.

while separation means the action or state of moving or being moved apart: "the separation of parents and children". and /or the state in which a husband and wife remain married nut live apart: "she and her husband have agreed to a trial separation".
