Are the Maximum Ride series appropriate for an 11 year old?

The series should be fine if the child can take violence. They doesn't describe every gruesome detail, but if you have a soft stomach, it would be best if you left it alone. The book also adds Max's (main character) feelings for Fang and other characters a bit more when you reach the books Max, Fang, and Angel.

The maturity level of the child will also be a factor. It is thought that females mature at an earlier age than boys, but boys like rough things usually. Max is 14 or 15 depending on the book and gained maturity quickly form living on her own with the flock for 2 years. It can be easier if the child can understand this.
