Why did dirkhartog explore?

Willem Janszoon, not Dirck Hartog, was the Dutch explorer who explored the Australian coastline in 1606. He was looking for new trading opportunities and a possible passage to the Spice Islands. Janszoon's journey eventually led to the first European sighting of Australia.
