During a time of famine in Judah (Bethlehem to be specific), a man named Elimelech & his wife Naomi took their sons to Moab to live. The sons each married Moabite women, one named Ruth. Eventually the man and both sons died, leaving the three women. The second daughter in law went back to her own people, but Ruth stayed with Naomi. Some time later, Ruth remarried a man named Boaz, and they had a son named Obed. Obed grew and had a son named Jesse, and Jesse grew and had a son named David, who grew to be a great king. Jesus also came from the lineage of David.
