Why had there never been a rainbow before the Flood?

There is no Biblical or scientific indication that there weren't rainbows before the flood; we should probably assume that there were. In other Words, The Bible does notsay that there weren't rainbows before the flood, only that God pointed to the rainbow as a sign of his covenant from that point forward.
