There are hundreds of tips and pieces of advice from all over the world, but here are a few that I use: Never leave anything on the stove with unaccompanied children in the kitchen. Never allow the handles of pots and pans to stick out over the edge of the stove--it's too tempting for little fingers to reach up and grab. Use a lid or splatter screen when you're frying food. Never use a pot holder that's wet; that's almost as painful as not using one at all. Make sure your throw rugs lie flat and don't skid. Don't leave food out overnight; in fact, it's safest to refrigerate food as soon as it's stops steaming (some cooks refrigerate food immediately after serving).
