Who is NC named after?

NC, or North Carolina, is named after King Charles I of England, who granted the land to Sir Walter Raleigh in the 1580s. The name "Carolina" is derived from the Latin version of Charles, "Carolus." The colony was originally part of the Province of Carolina, which was later divided into North and South Carolina in 1712.
