-COMMUNICATION SKILLS Care workers use a range of different communication skills during their working day (or night). These include listening and various types of verbal (talking) skills, as well as touch and forms of body language. A care worker has to use their communication skills when they: ■ Carry out an assessment of individual's care needs ■ Give or receive information about the care they provide ■ Provide emotional support to a client or family member Communication is about making contact with others and being understood. It involves sending and receiving messages. We all communicating, or sending messages continuously.
