The term Caucasian can be used in two manners

  • The first is the frequently used "dictionary" definition which defines Caucasian as of "the white race." The color of a person does not determine ethnicity.
  • The second and original meaning is an ethnicity. A ethnicity has culture, tradition, and sharing of a common culture. In this case Caucasian is people who live (or whose ancestors lived) in the Caucasus (a geopolitical region at the border of Europe and Asia which is situated between the Black and the Caspian sea. It includes the the Caucasus Mountains) and were part of the various ethnic groups inhabiting the Caucasus region and /or people speaking the languages native to the Caucasus area (Kartvelian, Northwest Caucasian, and Northeast Caucasian)
