Even if the Patterson film of bigfoot is a fake. How could a film shot in 1967 explain sightings from a hundred years earlier?

the patterspon/gimlin has never proven to be a hoax. the guy in the suit has never came forward and the suit has not been collected. Natives have related stories about the sasquatch for centuries ago.
