The perimeter of a rectangular garden is 40ft the width is 2 ft more then one half the length find the length and width?

Length = L

Perimeter = P = 2L + 2W

Width = W

Given:

W = ½ L + 2

P = 40ft

Substitute:

P = 2L + 2(½ L + 2), P = 2L + L + 4, P = 3L + 4,

40 = 3L + 4, 3L = 36, L = 36/3 = 12, .................................. L = 12.

40 = 2L + 2W, W = 40/2 - 24/2, W = 20-12, ...................... W = 8.
