He probably would but he mainly helps farmers clear their ponds of the nuisance snapping turtles - Soft shells are a river and creek turtle and generally not found in man made ponds. They can move extremely quickly in water or on land. In fact, they are probably the fastest turtles on land and much harder to catch than a snapping turtle - believe it or not they are even more vicious than a snapper and will even kill fish after they are gorged leaving them to rot. I doubt that even in a crystal clear pond the turtleman would be able to keep up with one and catch it without a net as there is no long tail to grab.
