To properly wire a 3-way switch with power at the switch, follow these steps:
- Turn off the power to the circuit at the breaker box.
- Identify the power source and the two 3-way switches in the circuit.
- Connect the power source to the common terminal of the first switch.
- Connect the traveler wires to the other terminals of the first switch.
- Run a 3-wire cable between the two switches, connecting the traveler wires to the corresponding terminals on the second switch.
- Connect the common terminal of the second switch to the light fixture.
- Turn the power back on and test the switches to ensure they are working properly.
