Ashraf Ghani was the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in 2016. He has been in office since 2014 September 29. After a controversial election in 2014, Ghani brokered a deal with opponent Abdullah Abdullah in which Abdullah became the Chief Executive of Afghanistan, a newly created position.
