What is the meaning of the name didier?

According to sources found easily upon the Inter-net, is the most likely proposal that it means "desired" or "Most desired", from French "desire", a Word when broken down seems to contain these elements; "de" plus "sire", or simply; "from or of the king/sire/father." It was also supposedly a royal name; "Didier King of the Lombards." A definition of "sire" can lead one into numerous directions however.
