Milk fish became the national fish of the Philippines because of its abundance in the country, the said fish can be found anywhere in Philippines, it is easy to cultured and much cheaper compared to other fishes.

Milkfish (Chanos chanos, Forskal) - belongs to the Chanidae family which is nearly related to tuna and salmon due to its fusiform shape and migratory nature and characteristics. It is widely distributed in the Hindu-pacific region and abundantly collected in the south and Southeast Asian, and the West pacific regions.

Milkfish is popularly cultured in the Philippines because it is better food-converter specie.
