You need three measurements:

  1. Length in feet
  2. Width in feet
  3. Average depth in feet (add the shallow depth to the deep end depth and divide by 2)

Next, multiply the three measures to get the volume of the pool in cubic feet. Once you've done that, use this formula to determine gallons:

  • cubic feet x 7.48 = gallons

An example: For a 36' long by 18' wide by 6' (average depth) pool:

  1. 36' x 18' x 6' = 3,888 cubic feet of volume -
    • 3,888 x 7.48 = 29,082.24 gallons
