How did polyfest start?

Polynesian Festival, commonly known as Polyfest, began in 1976 in Auckland, New Zealand, as a small gathering to celebrate the diverse cultures of the Pacific Islands. It was initiated by a group of teachers and students from secondary schools, aiming to provide a platform for Māori and Pacific Islander youth to showcase their cultural heritage through music, dance, and arts.
