I don't believe that running away is a crime in the U.S. So, unless she committed a crime while she was running away, a judge would not send her to jail. However, she might be evaluated by social services or a psychologist to determine the reason for running away. Authorities would be concerned that either the child had emotional/behavioral problems or that the family was not creating a healthy environment for her.
If you or someone you know is thinking of running away, please talk to a trusted adult. Think about your school counselor, a neighbor, or aunt/uncle. If you're worried that they might contact your parents and get you in trouble, you can talk to someone confidentially (and for free) at: 1-800-RUNAWAY - (see related link).
These people can help you with problems at home and other issues.
