First known inhabitants of France

Neanderthals lived in France during the period between 90,000 and 40,000 BC, followed by Cro-Magnons in 35,000 BC and Celtic Gauls in 1500 BC. Neanderthal skeletons and Cro-Magnon cave paintings have been found in France's Dordogne region.
