To remove the manual transmission from a 1989 Ford Ranger 4x4, first, disconnect the battery and drain the Transmission Fluid. Next, remove the driveshaft by unbolting it from the rear differential and the transmission. Then, disconnect the clutch linkage, shift linkage, and any electrical connections, followed by unbolting the transmission from the bellhousing and engine.
