I question the necessity of getting a 2 year olds lip pierced?

As an infant this piercing will be very inconvenient and inappropriate.

It will cause a lot of discomfort and no doubt will get caught on things and become infected as a baby won't be able to hold the responsibility of being cautious and not getting it grubby.
