What decade did women begin to shave their pubic hair?

Although it has probably been done throughout the ages here and there, many women started shaving their pubic hair in the late 80s and early 90s. Waxing and depilatory cremes became popular. Modern bikini bathing suits nearly require it. It is an accepted practice in many parts of the world, just like shaving armpits and legs.
